Almost immediatley just as we started our company, people began to send us stories about why they acquired one of our crosses. "I bought one of your crosses to honor my son who was killed in Iraq" or "I wanted to honor my Dad who was a career firefighter and a World War II vet" or " I wanted to give testimony to the memory of my Mom who passed on after many years of struggling with breast cancer."
We eventually had about 20 stories - stories of the real heroes who we had set out to honor. It occured to us that these stories needed a place of honor so that they could be told and stand as an example to us all -- especially to our kids.
As a result we set up the Honor My Hero Project as a separate, dignified place where people could tell the stories of their heroes for all to read. There are now about 200 such stories out there and the project has taken on a life of its own, well apart from our crosses.
