The company is named for the founder's mother, Justina Risdorfer, whose maiden name was Justina Cusanelli. Everyone knew her as Nina. Nina was born December 12th, 1924 and died March 8th, 2001. She was a beautiful, loving person, full of virtues and life. Like most American families, the Risdorfer family struggled to make ends meet. Nina had to work and Al, her husband, held down two, and at times three jobs just to keep us above water.Nonetheless Nina possessed a vibrant love for life that ranged from the simple things to the finer things that it offered. She loved good food both traditional as well as exotic, especially when it involved celebrations with family and friends. She loved to travel and experience how other people lived. She loved things of great beauty especially the arts and culture, and, although we had very little of it, fine clothing, fashion and jewelry.
She loved her family and sacrificed much to keep our family bonds strong. An only-child herself, she was our family matriarch, the pillar around which our home was built. Through her example, courage, sacrifice and steadfast devotion, she and her husband Al shaped the values of our family. By the time she passed away her family numbered 4 children, 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
As the wife, daughter-in-law and mother of US military veterans she was deeply patriotic and knowledgeable of the cost of freedom. As the daughter-in-law, wife and grandmother of law enforcement officers, she was keenly aware of civic duty and the courage it often required to build and safeguard our communities. As the mother and grandmother of medical professionals, as well as her life experience of being the prime healthcare provider for her family, she knew and appreciated the sacrifice and hard-work needed to care for others. And as a daughter, whose own mother died giving her a Catholic education, she valued learning and academic achievement but more importantly she valued her religion and knew all too well the power of prayer and faith in God.
CEO & Mom-A month before her passing away
In summary, she was a woman of taste and culture, of understanding and learning, of compassion and generosity and above all of spirituality and faith. She is the ideal role model for our company and we think she would be proud of what we are trying to do. In fact we know she approves. Thanks to an unanticipated delay, our formal incorporation papers from the State of Delaware did not arrive until December 11th. Consequently, the first formal meeting of the corporation to adopt its articles of incorporation was held December 12th 2006, which happened to be Nina Cusanelli’s birthday. We take this as a non-coincidental sign of heavenly endorsement from Mom for our efforts in honoring her memory.
